Grafton Greys write up for Monday 22/1/2018  By Daryl Gleeson

Grafton Greyhounds race tonight with a very hard 12 race card compared to the last few meetings, but this could be a good thing as all the favourite punters who like the shorts (including myself) are looking to bounce back. Odds on favourites have an awful record at Grafton recently so lets hope tonight with the races being so even we may find a winner at a bit of odds.

My best bet on the program appears in race 11 the George's Tree Services Stks over 305m. How can you go past the Robby Andrews trained bitch Kingsbrae Lotte? Lining up for her 100th start tonight this gallant little bitch has won 23 races and has 32 placings and not to mention she has a picket fence beside her name winning her last five races in a row. Although her stats say she loves a wide draw she did win here 2 starts off the one box in 17.54.

In her last start win at Grafton she ran a sizzling 3.04 section for the first mark just missing Opal Valleys record first section split of 2.98. So as you can see by her best winning time of 17.46 at Grafton, Kingsbrae Lotte is nearly unstoppable when she sails to the lead. Looking for dangers if there are any you would have to look at the ultra consistent performers at Grafton in Mac The Quick and the well drawn Pink Scissors.

A great race on the night will be Race 6 The Ladbrokes Red Dog Heat over 480m. This looks to the best match race I have seen for a long time with two real live chances in the red runner Hidden Sniper trained by Marlene Ellis and the pink runner trained by Dessy Winters in Goldman Valley. Marlene Ellis will be doing cart wheels with the news Hidden Sniper has drawn the red. Having the good record of 7 wins from 21 starts this red brindle dog has only drawn inside box 4 in two out of twenty starts previously. Tonight the Sniper has got his chance to carve out a very fast time.

The big danger to Hidden Sniper is drawn out in the 8 box in the ultra consistent Goldman Valley. Having just the 9 starts so far for 3 wins and 3 seconds Goldman Valley has been charging home at the end of his 407m races at Grafton. Des took this striking fawn dog to Maitland last start and he ran a very respectable 25.39 in running 4th to the smart Dave Irwin trained Black County. Goldman Valley is not a brilliant beginner but he should sail across into second spot down the back chasing Hidden Sniper. Whether he can run him down is the big question. I am saying that he and predicting a  Goldman Valley win right on the line. I can hear the connections of Hidden Sniper saying YOU BEAUTY ! .

The main race on the program is race eight which is the Barry (Tort) Walters Memorial final over 407m. This race was put on in memory of the former hard working committee man for at Grafton in Tort Walters. This is a extremely hard race with no less then five chances. I am going for the speedy Kingsbrae Steve trained by Robby Andrews. Kingsbrae Steve looks the leader in this tough race as evidenced by his 8.46 and 8.47 first sections at his previous starts here. Although he gets a little tired in the run to the line I am tipping he can pinch the final tonight. Baron Von Strud looks the obvious danger after winning his heat in 23.39 for the little master in Reggie Gardoll while former Grafton trainer Johnny Dart has the red with Team Jarvis who won his heat in 23.40 which must also be respected.

Another good bet on this hard programme looks to be in race 5 the Ladbrokes Red Dog Heat two over 480m where I am going for the ultra consistent Air Time drawn in the one box. Two runs ago Air Time ran the very fast time of 29.87 in winning at Lismore. Just five starts ago he ran a good race behind the group 1 winner Thirty Talks at Albion Park. Tonight Air Time looks a good bet and lets hope he bounces straight on the bunny. The big danger to Air Time looks to be the Sandy Robertson trained Tranquil Invader who is the winner of 8 of his 23 starts. Tranquil Invader is as honest as the day is long and if Air Time does one thing wrong Robbo's honest dog will be ready to pounce. Five runs ago Tranquil Invader won here in the smart time of 27.65 but he did run a fast 12.24 to the first mark so as you can see if he runs these times he will be hard to beat. Punters the first race tonight is on at 6.42pm and the last race is on at 10.30pm so lets hope we see you on course.
