Twelve exciting races of greyhound racing action are scheduled for decision when the Grafton Greyhound Racing Club continues its Monday night chasing action.

This evening there are three heats of the Ladbrokes Red Dog series for 5th grade greyhounds over 480 metres with many of the contenders stepping up to 480 metres for the first time.

Heat 1 unearths one of the 480 metre debutants in the form of the Dave Irwin trained Slippery Valley which is better known as a speedy 407 metre type so it will be quite interesting to see how he handles the step up in journey.

Owned and bred locally by Debbie Winters, Slippery Valley is the veteran of just 13 race starts which have resulted in 4 wins and 6 placings with a personal best time of 23.08 seconds over the 407 metre journey and typically he has not looked like a genuine 480 metre campaigner however on that night when he did clock his personal best he was able to find the lead very quickly and when able to do so he was able to finish off his race in nice style running a handy 14.65 final section which indicates that on the lure he could well prove the testing material.

Punters can overlook his last start race fall as it appeared to be an innocuous fall which occurred at low speed not far out of the boxes so he shouldn't have taken any harm from the fall. Box 3 is not a box draw which has provided any favours but if able to step away cleanly Slippery Valley can be expected to engage in an early speed battle with the David Brodie trained Little Terry and if so he should prove too strong for that runner.

A knockout runner in the race is the Robert Andrews trained Him The Master that has some good form over 484 metres at Casino however he will have to be on his game from a horror 6 draw tonight as he would be much better suited close to the rails.

The second heat looks to an interesting affair with the John Antonelli trained Bokarm Dean likely to start as the race favourite however just like Slippery Valley he too is making his 480 metre debut tonight. Bokarm Dean does give the impression that he should be able to handle the step up in distance based on his final sections however connections will be hoping that he brings his best box manners with him tonight as the son of Fancy Dean and Bokarm Ava can be hit and miss from the boxes. If he does miss the start he does like to push wide and getting wide from box 4 which he has tonight is no easy task.

Hardest to beat could be the slow beginning Golden Kahn from the astute Jeff Ahern kennel while Bella Lyndan, Skittish Express and Hold Ya Breath will have their admirers.

It gets no easier for punters to sort out in the third and final heat with once again another of the leading contenders being tested at the distance for the first time. That runner is the Bob Merillo trained Bokarm Bear which is one runner which does suggest he will be suited to 480 metres. Bokarm Bear is quite a strong greyhound over 407 metres and until they actually prove themselves at the longer distance it always remains a question mark as to how they handle until they actually prove that they can.

Bokarm Bear has recorded 5 wins and 5 placings from his 11 race starts and if he can overcome box 5 he certainly has a big chance of making it win number 6.

The Terry Lockhart trained Five Of Spades will prove very tough opposition as the talented youngster is a proven 480 metre performer and he has been quite impressive in his short Grafton career to date.

Five Of Spades kicked off his Grafton campaign with a good maiden win here at the distance and that win has been backed up by some unlucky placings including one behind the smart Northern Nangar when it could be argued that he should have nearly beaten that runner.

Five Of Spades is only young so if he can overcome his at times tardy box manners he could well have a very promising career waiting to blossom.

Other chances include but are not limited to Black Dynasty, Kingsbrae Boof and Mursleow in what is quite an open race.

It looks difficult to find a best bet but if David Lyndan can outpace the speedy Indi Rose in the Clarence Valley Sheds stakes he should have a little too much class for his opposition tonight and he will find this race much easier than what he has been contesting of late and he does appear to be one of the better bets on the night for trainer Terry Jordan.
