Grafton Greyhounds race tonight with a strong 11 event card set down for decision. Let's hope our tipsters do better after last weeks effort but let's face it that was the final straw when Cry Later got beat at the Winx odds of $1.26 or 4 to 1 on in the old days! With just three meetings left before the start of the rich July carnival we are seeing more and more visiting trainers to the area getting their charges ready for the carnival.
Looking for the best bet on tonights programme how could you go past Mitch Northfields honest little bitch Kooringa Molly in Race 7, the Ladbrokes Red Dog Heat, where she has drawn the red box. Superbly bred locally by Magic Sprite out of Erin Norris, Kooringa Molly was a last start winner here in a fair 23.51 but from her much preferred box 1 draw I expect her to get down to about 23.20, a time which will win this race tonight.
Having had 14 starts for 5 wins already, Kooringa Molly looks a shoe in to rack up win number 6 tonight. Molly did run a fast 23.36 at Casino from box 1 just proving how fast the bitch can go when she draws her favourite box 1 position. The danger to Kooringa Molly looks to be the Alexander Verhagen trained Zipping Abbot drawn in box 2. Alexander has decided to drive the 6 hours each way from Swan Bay for tonights race and this dog is certainly a very interesting runner.
Also having the great record of 12 starts for 5 wins Zipping Abbot has been doing all his racing in Victoria where he has won at Horsham, Sale and Bendigo in good times. Owned by the big owners of our sport in the Hallinan family I am pretty sure Zipping Abbot will keep Kooringa Molly very honest in tonights race. Dessie Winters consistent galloper Blusta Valley drawn in box 5 looks the third pick for our trifecta punters.
The hardest race to pick on the night and undoubtedly the best race on the night is Race 4, the Village Green Stakes over 407m for the Free for All class dogs. I think there are no less than five leading chances in this race. I have gone for Mitch Northfield again with his ultra consistent bitch Kooringa Maizie who has drawn the red alley. Kooringa Maizie is foolproof out of the boxes and should lead tonights race and if she can reproduce her personal best time of 23.06 she will certainly look the winner down the straight at some stage.
Arabella Emjay trained in QLD by Michael Brauer looks the danger with the impressive stats of 30 starts for 10 wins. A last start winner at Albion Park in a fast 22.64 Arabella Emjay might just get the gun run behind Kooringa Maizie as she has drawn right beside her in the 2 box. Newcastle Brown for Tracey Hindmarsh and Orara Sal for Garry Smith certainly would not surprise if they won the race also. As I said, this is the race of the night.
Punters looking for another winner should go to race 6, the Ladbrokes Red Dog Heat over 407m in the shape of the Peter Marsh trained Wallace Valley drawn in the perfect box 1. Wallace Valley was having trouble breaking back into the winners list after a three month spell but his last two starts he has turned the corner, firstly leading all the way from tonights box 1 as well as then leading until the final stages last week getting run down on the line by Thanks Nelly, who does looks the danger again tonight.
Wallace Valley looks the logical leader from the rails but if Thanks Nelly possies up second like she did last week we may be in trouble in the run to the line. The problem for Thanks Nelly is she has gone from box 1 to box 7 which is a drawback. Johnny Corrigan's Raven Loch drawn in box 3 also has a chance in tonights race as it ran a fast 24.00 seconds 4 runs ago when winning at Lismore.
Punters staying for the last race should just back Dean Turleys dogs. I have tipped Turl to box the trifecta but let's hope they finish 8-2-7 the way I have tipped them! The first of 11 races tonight start at 7.12 pm and the last is set down for 10.27pm.
